Famous Cartoonist Drew Litton hosts Fireside Chat May 28

Nationally syndicated sports cartoonist Drew Litton will be featured in a Fireside Chat at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Denver Press Club, 1300 Glenarm Place. The event, sponsored by the Colorado Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, is free and open to the public.Litton

Litton will discuss the ideas for his cartoons, and the reaction from the cartoons’ subjects and the public. He’ll also have examples of his recent work.

“Win, Lose & Drew” was Litton’s popular sports cartoon series at the Rocky Mountain News from 1982-2009. After the Rocky closed, Litton expanded his client list to other publications. He draws for his website three times a week, is syndicated by Universal Uclick and draws weekly for the Chicago Tribune. His work also appears on 9News and in the Boulder Daily Camera, Colorado Rockies Magazine and Mile High Sports magazine.

Litton is also “the proud staff cartoonist for the Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, N.M.” Former Rocky reporter M.E. Spregelmeyer is the publisher and editor of The Communicator, a 2,000-circulation weekly he bought in 2009.

When people ask Litton where he learned to draw, he says “I must come clean. I learned everything I know about cartooning in algebra class.” He grew up an avid fan of newspaper comic strips and was a faithful viewer of Saturday morning TV cartoon shows, especially Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner.
