Join us as the Society of Professional Journalists Colorado Professional Chapter hosts “Food as History,” a fireside chat at the Denver Press Club with Adrian Miller, a Denver-based culinary historian and James Beard Award-winning author whose work has reshaped how Americans understand food, culture and history.

A longtime Colorado resident and Georgetown University Law School graduate, Miller has served in public policy roles at both the White House and the Colorado Governor’s Office, led major cultural projects documenting Black history in Colorado, and continues to contribute nationally while remaining deeply rooted in the local community.
His books include Soul Food, The President’s Kitchen Cabinet, Black Smoke, and Cooking to the President’s Taste. He currently is executive director of the Colorado Council of Churches.
In conversation, Miller will discuss how food operates as a historical record; why certain stories are remembered while others are overlooked; and what culinary history can teach us about identity, power, and place.
The evening includes a hosted happy hour, followed by conversation, an audience Q&A, and a book signing featuring Miller’s award-winning titles, with books available for purchase.
When: Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026 — 6-7 p.m. happy hour (first drink provided by SPJ Colorado Pro), 7-8 p.m. fireside chat followed by book signing.
Where: The Denver Press Club, 1330 Glenarm Place. Metered parking is on the street, a pay lot is next door, and the free RTD 16th Street shuttle is two blocks away.
